Comings and goings at Fairey

Trom star Les Webb calls it a day at Fairey as new recruits join the ranks.

Fairey

4BR has been informed that Fairey's solo trombone player Les Webb has reluctantly announced his retirement from the band due to family and work commitments.

Big decision

Les told 4BR: "It was a big decision, but now I actually have time do stuff with my wife and kids! It's been quite an adventure with a great set of people who I shall miss. My last concert with the band will be on the 15th April at Formby Hall, Atherton. Hopefully I’ll see a few old friends and colleagues there, it should be a great gig!"

New trom

Replacing Les will be Ryan Watkins, who has just been appointed Principal Trombone with the National Youth Band of Great Britain and who is a first year student at the RNCM.

Bass and perc

Ryan joins from Hepworth as does another new recruit, Simon Moffat on Eb Bass. The Australian has played a key part in Hepworth’s successes over recent years.

The band also announced two new members of the percussion team, in Craig Harper and Graham Proctor. Craig joins from the Poynton Band, whilst Graham is a first year student at the RNCM.
