Launceston celebrates wonderful return

Five years of hard graft have paid off for David Dobson and his wonderful players at Launceston.

Launceston

Launceston Town Band is celebrating their latest success, after claiming a place at the National Finals in Cheltenham.

Cheltenham bound

The band posted a well deserved podium finish in the Fourth Section at the West of England Area Championships in Torquay to claim their qualification amid scenes of joyful celebrations. MD Dave Dobson, was overcome with emotion as screams of delight rang around the Riviera Centre.

Thank you

Dave told 4BR: "A big thank you goes to all the wonderful players. It was a deserved result for 5 years of hard work."

Dave took over the leadership of Launceston in 2006 and has worked hard to bring them back to full contesting strength.

A big thank you goes to all the wonderful players. It was a deserved result for 5 years of hard workMD, Dave Dobson

Young band

Last year they won the Fourth Section at the Exmouth Brass Band Festival and SWBBA contest with a very young band that has two thirds of its players under the age of 18, with a horn section with an average age of just 16!

What made the success even better was that Launceston will be the only Cornish representatives at the Finals in September.
