2012 Cornish Championships

Organisers announce details of forthcoming Cornish Championships.

Details of the 57th Annual Cornish Brass Band Championship promoted by the Cornwall Brass Band Association, have been announced.

Ideal venue

The contest will take place on Saturday 28th April in the du Maurier Suite of the Tremough Campus, Penryn, near Falmouth, which provides an ideal venue for the event, with free parking, bar and restaurant.

Sections

There are own choice contests for Fourth, Third, Second and combined First and Championship Section bands as well as a section for ungraded bands and youth bands.

Any band is allowed to enter any section higher than their grading if they wish.

Youth & Juniors

In addition there will be a Youth Band section catering for up to 35 players aged 19 years and under on the day of the contest, which may include two senior instrumentalists, playing bass or bass trombone.

Junior bands will have a section to themselves for up to 35 players, aged 15 years and under on the day of the contest, which may also include two senior players, again playing bass or bass trombone.

Training bands are catered for with a section specially formulated for them. The players can be any age, but not playing or registered with any senior band, again up to 35 players and again with the two senior players (bass or bass trombone) if required.

The contest is open to non member bands and borrowed players are allowed up to a maximum of three who must be from the same section or below, or one above the section in which the borrowing band is entered.

Entertainment Section

The conclusion of the contest is the Entertainment Section which is open to any band, up to 35 players, with no registration, playing an entertainment programme of 30 minutes duration.

Over £1300 prize money is spread across all the sections and the adjudicator for the day is C Brian Buckley.
