Co-op conquer mountain slopes

Leicestershire Co-op set the pace ahead of the Areas with early mountain climbing success.

Leicestershire

Leicestershire Co-op Band took five prizes at the recent North East Midlands Brass Band Association Contest.

Mountain Views

The competition gave the band a pre-Area assessment of their First Section set work, 'Mountain Views'.

And it proved to be a succesful early season assault too, with the newly promoted band taking home the 'Best Euphonium' and 'Best Trombone' prizes — won by Steve and Liz Barham respectively, as well as 'Best Bass Section' and 'Best Percussion Section' Awards.

Best ever result

MD Graham Jacklin told 4BR: "This represents the band's best ever result. After coming second at Cheltenham at the National Finals we were only hoping to do well at the NEMBBA contest, so to come away with such a clear win is fantastic."

He added: "It just goes to show that with hard work, anything is possible. We are really looking forward to the Area contest in Bedworth."
