van Emmerick Phd signals celebration

Australian euph star adds a PhD to his CV.

Emmerick

Australian euphonium star Matthew van Emmerik has just graduated as a Doctor of Music from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

His 4-year PhD studies came to a resounding close at the Great Hall, University of Sydney, where he celebrated with his partner Monique and family.

Focus

The PhD studies which have focussed on the euphonium, its origins and where it is now placed in the current musical climate also included Matthew’s two solo CD recordings as part of his thesis text.

Passionate

Matt told 4BR: "It’s great to have finally finished my PhD. It’s been a long 4 -5 years, although it has been a wonderful opportunity and journey to have delved into the instrument and history of something I truly am passionate about."

He added: "There were times when I wondered if it would ever see the light of day. However, my focus and end goal were never in doubt and I’m so pleased to have completed this massive achievement and to have celebrated it with my family."

Growing CV

2011 was an action packed year for the performer as he visited Thailand, Holland and the USA on two occasions.

He added performances with the US Army Band ‘Pershings Own’, as well as being guest soloist at the Leonard Falcone conference to his expanding CV, whilst he has also been helping in the development of a new euphonium too.
