Steven Mead will soon embark on a ten day visit to the Lone Star state of Texas to escape the coldweather and spread some Brit inspired ‘euphonium love’ in the good ol' US of A...
Lone Star state
He begins with a three-day appearance at the Texas Music Educators Conference in San Antonio, before embarking on a gruelling seven university tour, including a masterclass and full recital performance everyday.
Steve will be stoppping off at Texas Tech University, the Texas Christian University, University of Texas, Texas State University, and Baylor University before the tour culminates at the US mecca for euphonium students — the University of North Texas.
He will present a varied programme in his recital, including major new works with piano as well as teaming up with the resident university brass quintets and trombone quartets.
It's going to put huge demands on the stamina, but I'm really looking forward to it. Those that know me know that this kind of schedule is what I love — so it's time spread that euphonium love around!Steven Mead
Invitations
Steve told 4BR: "For the last few years I've had some invitations from schools in Texas and I thought it best to try and incorporate all of them in one concentrated visit.
It's going to put huge demands on the stamina, but I'm really looking forward to it. Those that know me know that this kind of schedule is what I love — so it's time spread that euphonium love around!"
Brass bands
He added: "I'm expecting there'll be a lot of questions about brass bands and I'm excited to see one or two fledgeling bands that operate at these universities."
A busy time ahead then for one of the world’s most successful brass soloists — and one who is about to celebrate his 50th birthday on February 26th!
