Malvern Hills District Band has announced the appointment of their new MD, Christopher Small.

The 22 years old is currently studying euphonium in his final year at the Birmingham Conservatoire under the tutelage of David Childs.

Chris told 4BR: "I’m delighted at the appointment. Having gained conducting guidance at the Conservatoire from Ian Porthouse, this is a great opportunity for me. I’m very excited at the thought of taking the band to the forthcoming Area contest and look forward to the coming season."

A band spokesperson added: "Band members have thoroughly enjoyed working with Chris and we are looking forward to a productive, enjoyable and happy association with such a dynamic and enthusiastic conductor."

Malvern will also be celebrated the New Year by moving into their new bandroom in March whilst their summer concert programme is already filling up.
