Early retirement for Creetown stalwart

Harry Heaver takes early retirement from the Creetown Band — aged 93...

Creetown Silver Band has announced the early retirement of Harry Heaver from the band – although he is 93 years of age!

Harry has been a member for 64 years ever since moving to the area after the Second World War to work in forestry.

Life member

In his time with the band he has played cornet, flugel, horn and baritone, was the most regular attendee in the band, seldom missing a rehearsal or engagement. A life member of the SBBA, Harry was also the band's honorary President.

Call it a day

In his short retirement announcement Harry thanked everyone one in the band for the help given by many players to enable him to continue so long, but after a difficult winter felt it was time to call it a day. He did however threaten to attend rehearsals and give his considered criticism!!

A social evening is being planned in March which will be used to officially mark his contribution to the band.
