Lusher deadline looms

The deadline to get your entries on for the Don Lusher Competition is looming — and fast.

4BR has been informed that the deadline for the 2012 Don Lusher Competition is January 21st.

Applicants must be aged 22 or younger (birth date of 1st September 1989 or later), whilst the first prize is the Don Lusher Trophy, awarded by Diana Lusher, and a professional quality trombone donated by Yamaha — a choice of the YSL697Z or YSL881 Xeno.

Top three

The top three competitors will be invited to perform at the British Trombone Society National Festival in Cardiff on 26th and 27th May.

Judges

The competition will be judged by Bill Geldard, Gordon Campbell and Steve Sykes. Previous winners have taken part in a variety of BTS events throughout the year.

The competition aims to encourage young players to develop the type of lyrical playing that Don Lusher was so famous for.

Rules

The rules and application details can be found at http://www.britishtrombonesociety.org/competitions/don-lusher-young-trombonists-competition.html

Running out

Time is running out for the completed CDs of performances which have to be back with the Secretary of the BTS Geoff Wolmark in less than 10 days.

In exceptional circumstances, CDs will be considered up to the end of January.
