There will be plenty of fantastic music on offer from Kirklees Music at Butlins next weekend.

Beethoven

The 'Finale' from Beethoven’s 'Symphony No. 7', superbly arranged by Howard Snell as featured at Brass in Concert by Foden's Band will be available from the Kirklees stand at the Butlins Festival.

So too, the latest Philip Wilby original work 'Beyond Far Horizons' which has been composed to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Lake Wobegon Brass Band of Minnesota.

This, along with his arrangement of Handel’s Grand March from ‘Scipio’ will be available in Skegness.

Concert march

Also there will be a new concert march 'The Meltonian', composed specially for Melton Band by Leigh Baker, plus his 'Tiger Rag' the popular E flat tuba feature.

All Leigh’s other best selling concert items will be on show.

New publications

Other new publications on display will include:

'The Brett Baker Trombone Collection', which features eight solos with piano accompaniment by Philip Wilby, Philip Harper, Keith Wilkinson, Donald Gibson, Dorothy Gates, Andrea Price and Goff Richards.

The publication includes solo parts in treble and bass clef and these titles are featured on Brett’s latest CD albums 'Harlem Nocturne' and 'Boneman Walking'.

Acclaimed new composer

'Within the Paths of Righteousness' (Variations on ‘Crimond’) the much-acclaimed new work from rising compositional talent Jonathan Bates is also available.

Meanwhiel, music from the pen of Ludovic Neurohr is making a big impression, and his major work 'Psyché' was used at the FABB Australasian Festival recently.

Books

'The Major and His Band', the story of Bickershaw Colliery Band is now re-printed along with a CD with Harry Mortimer, and was described by the late Editor of the British Bandsman Peter Wilson as, "...the best history of a band that I have ever read."

Wellington Silver Band (Somerset)

May 2 • Bb Basses. With Colin Dance now appointed as our MD and our other Bb Bass leaving due to work commitments, we have openings for two Bb basses. We are a friendly community (4th section?) band with a variety of gigs including our own Proms in the Park.

April 28 • Tintwistle Band are looking for a Soprano and front row cornet players to help complete our team.. We rehearse Monday and Thursday 8-10pm at our own bandroom on Old Road in Tintwistle, and perform a variety of concerts all year round.
