Organisers of the forthcoming DFDS Seaways Contest, have told 4BR that even though they are encouraged by the initial response to the event, they still hope to attract a few more late entries – attracted by the prospect winning the £5,000 first prize.
Good response
Graham Harvey told 4BR: “The closing date for entries is 20th January. There has been a good response so far with bands from both sides of the English Channel. We currently have ten bands taking part, but we would like to be able to field up to 15 if possible.”
Line up
The confirmed line up is headed by London champion, Rebdridge Brass with Alder Valley, Zone One, LGB Brass, Betteshanger Colliery, Medway and Horsham making up the domestic rivals with Brass Band Heist and Brass Band Gent providing the European challenge from Belgium.
The contest will take place at Dover Town Hall, where the bands will perform 20 minutes of music that must include a hymn tune and soloist.

More entries
With warm up facilities, lunch break and an evening concert provided by current British Open champion, Cory, Graham is hoping that further bands will now be tempted to get in touch and find out more about the event.
"We believe the contest will become a regular and important event in the banding world, and although this is the first time it is being staged we are determined to make it an outstanding success."
