As well as a trio of MBE's awarded to musicians involved in the UK brass band movement, news has reached 4BR that David Howan was awarded the Queens Service Award for Services to Brass Bands in the New Zealand New Year Honours list.
Over 50 years
David has been in the Wellington South Band of the Salvation Army for over 54 years, which included 13 as Deputy Bandmaster and 14 as Bandmaster.
On retirement he conducted the Wellington Divisional Band for 5 years and is currently playing solo cornet with them at present.
He has been very active with the New Zealand Brass Band Association over many years in administration, and has adjudicated at several National, Area and Solo contests.

Last Post
He still is the official Bugler for the Kilbirnie Branch of the Returned Servicemen’s Association, and has played ‘The Last Post’ and ‘Reveille’ at Anzac Day services and RSA Funerals for 23 years.
