Advert: Kirklees Music

Michael Buble tops the Christmas wish list at Kirklees — with plenty more great Xmas offers to bag too.

Kirklees

‘Cry Me a River’, the popular Michel Bublé number has been the top seller during the year for the Brighouse-based publisher.

Hit

The song in three different versions has proved a hit with bands at home and abroad. Alan Morrison’s two versions for solo trombone and also as a full band number along with Adam Taylor’s cornet solo feature have topped the Kirklees light music list.

Philip Wilby’s ‘Grand March from Scipio’ has been adapted for brass band from his special arrangement ‘Fanfare & Fugue’ for The Grenadier Guards Band and with the optional Organ part has been used by many bands in their Church and Cathedral concerts.

This Handel classic will also be available for Wind Band in the New Year.

Tutor book

Kevin Edward’s ‘Practical Percussion’ maintained its position as one of the very top drum kit tutor books which has been enhanced in recent years with the play-along CD. The recording features a complete rhythm section and minus one tracks.

Swiss test

The success of our Swiss composer Ludovic Neuhohr, a winner of the Salford University/Kirklees Award, has continued with his major work ‘Psyche’ selected for the 2011 FABB Festival in Queensland, Australia.

His latest test piece, ‘31342 feet’, a commission by the recently crowned Swiss National Champions Ensemble de Cuivres Valaison was used as their own choice selection in Montreux.

New Golland work

An interesting new publication will be the final remaining manuscript from the pen of John Golland; the major work ‘Bellna’, which was commissioned by Brass Band Bienne in the 1970’s.

This work will be performed by The Cory Band and Dr. Robert Childs at the Festival of Brass in Manchester next month when Golland’s music will be featured strongly.

Come to Butlins

Graham and David Horsfield send best wishes to all our customers at home and abroad, many who have supported Kirklees for the first thirty years.

See our stand at the Butlin’s Festival next month where you can inspect a brand new music album of trombone solos played by Brett Baker on his latest C.D. album.

Publications

Also ‘The Major and his Band’, Keith Hollinshead’s story of the famous band of the 1950’s; Bickershaw Colliery has been re-printed by popular demand and is now issued with a CD of the band plus solos by the great Harry Mortimer and also includes a duet with Jack Mackintosh.

The recording has been re-mastered to a terrific standard. These two items will be on the stand at Butlins.
