The Wessex Open Contest recently attracted a fine line up of nineteen bands to the stage in Weymouth, where Lydbrook conducted by Ian Holmes upset the form book by taking the top honours ahead of Horsham Borough and Yeovil champions, Woodfalls.
Impressive
Their well structured performance of 'Paganini Variations' saw them claim victory by impressing Dave Barringer in the box. First Section Horsham's fine performance of 'Tallis Variations' was just enough to pip Woodfalls rendition of 'Un Vie de Matelot'.
In addition to the overall Wessex title and £150 in prize money, the band left with a fine haul of indivdual silverware too, with awards for 'Best Instrumentalist', 'Best Percussion', 'Best Basses' and 'Best Euphonium'.
