Railway star steams into World final

York Railway Institute Band's young percussion star steams to world final appearance.

York

Laurie Caudwell, one of York Railway Institute Band's talented percussion team, has won the UK final of the Roland V-Drum Championships at the Jam House in Birmingham.

He beat eight of the UK's best drummers to win an all expenses paid place at the World Championship in Anaheim, California in January.

Video entry

The first stage of the competition required Laurie to record a five minute video of his drumming, and upload it to YouTube.

His stunning performance proved one of the most popular videos in a public vote, resulting in his final appearance where his outstanding performance impressed the judging panel and secured his place at the World Final.

Proud

York's Musical Director Gordon Eddison told 4BR: "The York RI Band is so very proud of Laurie and his success. He is a key member of our highly succesful prize-winning percussion team and has a musical poise way ahead of his years."
