On a recent guest conducting trip to the Isle of Man, David Horsfield of Kirklees Music rehearsed a new arrangement of a Manx traditional carol arranged for the Castletown Metropolitan Band by Leigh Baker.
Thrilled
The band were thrilled with the imaginative version of this beautiful melody which is not only suitable for the Festive Season but will be a useful concert number at any time of the year.
Conductor Rodney Evans and Ian Cottier of ‘Time for Brass’ are researching the music and will be writing programme notes for the published version which will be available soon.
Tiger Rag
Leigh has been very busy writing and the tuba feature ‘Tiger Rag’ featured by Shaun Crowther and National Champions Brighouse & Rastrick is proving popular.
‘Bone Apart’ by Donald Gibson was composed specially for Brett Baker and will be featured on his forthcoming solo CD album.
In the Bleak Mid Winter
The solo ‘In the Bleak Mid Winter’ arranged by Black Dyke horn player Jonathan Bates is proving popular with horn soloists.

Psyche
Kirklees policy of promoting the younger breed of arrangers and composers is paying dividends and Ludovic Neurohr has recently been featured at the FABB Festival on the Gold Coast with the set test piece ‘Psyche’ which went down well with players and conductors alike.
Kirklees Music Brighouse Brass, a new small ensemble will be doing a few carolling jobs in and around Brighouse to help the Brighouse Festival of Brass raise money for local charities.
Four candles
Philip Wilby’s ‘The Four Candles’ was specially written for the family quartet. This is now available for brass quartet from Kirklees.
