Results: 2011 Danish National Championship

The Danish National title returns to Lyngby-Taarbaek as they sing their way to victory and Rotterdam 2012.

Lyngby

The Danish National trophy was returned into the possession of Lyngby-Taarbaek Brass on the weekend. Under the direction of Selmer Simonsen they reclaimed the title after a two-year break from the hat-trick seeking reigning champions Concord Brass, with Aarhus Brass in third.

They will now represent Denmark at the European Championships in Rotterdam next May.

Night to Sing

The victory was set up for the eighth time since the turn of the Millennium thanks to a stunning performance of the set work, Bramwell Tovey’s, ‘The Night to Sing’ on the Friday evening.

It gave the band a commanding lead to take into the Own Choice discipline on the Saturday, where despite a thunderous performance of ‘On the Shoulders of Giants’ from Concord under the direction of Casper Schreiber, Lyngby’s detailed rendition of ‘A Tale as yet Untold’ by Philip Sparke was more than good enough to see them hold off their rivals.

Spirited challenge

Aarhus produced a spirited challenge to end in third thanks to a fine performance of ‘Music of the Spheres’ on the Saturday, whilst Silkeborg ended fourth ahead of Nordvestjysk Brass and FDF Helleruplund Brass.

We felt we had that extra gear in reserve – and that was shown by the reception the performnance was given in the hall after we playedLyngby Taarbaek Band

Close fight

A spokesperson for the new winners told 4BR: "It really was a close fight between Lyngby and Concord. Silkeborg, Århus and Concord all gave a solid performances of ‘The Night To Sing’. We felt we had that extra gear in reserve – and that was shown by the reception the performnance was given in the hall after we played."

Tense own choice

They added: "The Saturday was very tense, as Concord produced a very powerful interpretation of ‘Standing on the Shoulders’. However, we still had that reserve of stamin in palce to see us thrugh in the end.

We are now very confident of doing well at the Euroepan Championships in Rotterdam if we perform like this again."
