Fairey (Geneva) principal cornet player Iain Culross has returned from a highly successful playing tour to the USA.

Masterclasses

Despite some travel delays, Iain arrived in time to deliver well attended recitals at the Universities of Delaware, West Chester, and Rowan, as well as giving masterclasses with the trumpet students of each of the University Music Departments.

The recitals featured music by Peter Graham, Philip Sparke, Alexander Arutunian, William Himes, and Carl Hohne, with the expert accompaniment of pianist, Oleksii Ivanchenko.

Teaching

Iain also spent time undertaking individual teaching, before finishing the week off in fine style as guest soloist with the 2011 North American National champion, Atlantic Brass Band.

As well as a number of solo items, the concert gave Iain the opportunity to perform Wilfred Heaton's duet ‘Wonderful Words’ with his good friend Bryan Appleby-Wineberg, Atlantic's principal cornet player and the trumpet professor at Rowan University where the band is ensemble-in-residence.

Presentation

Following his encore, Iain took the opportunity to present Atlantic Brass Band's chairman, Jack Deal, with a Fairey stand banner and other mementos, as well as a card signed by every member of the North West band — a gesture of thanks following the kindness and generosity Atlantic had demonstrated by making a donation to Fairey following their bandroom fire last year.

Thanks

Iain told 4BR: "I would like to thank Willson Instruments for their support while I was in the USA, as well as Bryan Appleby-Wineberg and the Atlantic Brass Band for their hard work and hospitality."
