Blidworth celebrate 30th birthday

Blidworth Welfare Band recently celebrated its 30th anniversary in fine style.

Blidworth

Blidworth Welfare Band recently celebrated their 30th anniversary by giving a concert in Mansfield Woodhouse.

Popular

The band played to a capacity audience who were treated to a programme of popular favourites including music performed by the band in winning the 2011 Bolsover Festival of Brass Contest.

MD Martin Heartfield charmed the audience between items and even burst into song, along with the impromptu band ‘Glee Club’ in a vocal rendition of ‘Gee, Officer Krupke’ from ‘West Side Story’.

Martin has been a great asset to the band both as a player, committee member and chairman over the years, and we shall miss his inputKaren Cretney

Home

The band began life as the Teversal Colliery Band but on the colliery’s closure they moved to the nearby Blidworth Colliery which has been its home ever since.

Presentation

A special presentation was made to outgoing Band Chairman, Martin Carlin, who has been an active member since its inception.

Secretary Karen Cretney told 4BR: "Martin has been a great asset to the band both as a player, committee member and chairman over the years, and we shall miss his input."
