Brains help Hazel Grove plug Pontins gap

A huge quiz night has helped Hazel Grove Band plug their Pontins pay out hole...

Hazel Grove

There was a huge collection of brains on show at the recent Hazel Grove Brass Band Quiz Night.

23 teams

A ‘spookily’ themed Civic Hall was the venue for the second running of the event, and a staggering 124 people attended making up a total of 23 teams.

Hazel Grove’s Ian Barker was ‘Jeremy Paxman’ for the night in charge of asking the questions, assisted by Gareth Beasley who provided the technical support and kept track of the all important scores.

Meanwhile, Holly Dolman and Sara Harcourt did their best ‘Nigela’ impressions in the kitchen and cooked up a mouth-watering hotpot!

Reigning champs

The reigning champions, the nattily entitled, ‘Brian Buckley Fan Club’ team arrived early and began working on the table top questions in the hope of retaining their title, but such was the tough competition that it was the local ‘No Eyed Dears’ that came out top.

Team Intellident finished in second place with the Brian Buckley Fan Club in third.

In total the band managed to raise a whopping £1,200 which goes some way to plugging the gap left by Pontins non-payment of our £2,500 prize moneyHazel Grove Band

Thanks

A spokesperson from Hazel Grove told 4BR: "A huge thank you goes to John Woodall of Woodall Estates who sponsored the event for the second year running.

His financial support is much appreciated. In total the band managed to raise a whopping £1,200 which goes some way to plugging the gap left by Pontins non-payment of our £2,500 prize money!"
