One of the world’s leading trombone players will be re-launching his prestigious teaching class in London next year.
Inspired
Speaking exclusively to 4BR, Ian Bousfield said that the opportunity to return to teaching in London after a decade or more playing with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra has been a great inspiration.
"To be able to return to London really is something special," he said.
"I will be re-launching my trombone class in September next year. I so enjoyed teaching at the Royal Academy of Music until I left the LSO for Vienna in 2000. A decade or more away has given me the appetite and inspiration to return once more."
Prestigious class
Ian will be taking responsibility for the leadership and guidance of the students in the prestigious class, and will attend the Academy every three weeks for intensive coaching and lessons. In the interim weeks, Matthew Gee, Principal Trombone of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will continue Ian's teaching, working closely in conjunction with him.
This is the first time since leaving for Vienna that Ian has made such a strong commitment to any UK institution, and he looks forward to developing the skills of a world-class group of students at the Academy.

He added: "This is a wonderful opportunity for me to be able to teach some of the best students around. Also visiting three times a year will be Jörgen van Rijen of the Concertgebouw Orchestra, making the Academy one of the strongest trombone departments anywhere in the world."
Auditions
Entrance auditions will take place on the 12th of December, and all of those interested should register with the Academy as soon as possible.
