Frank Renton leads a tribute to Dr. Roy Newsome, as friends and colleagues recall his influence and achievements as a broadcaster (he presented this programme for eight years) conductor, composer, adjudicator, organiser, teacher and artistic consultant to celebrate a life dedicated to the brass band movement.

16th November:

The Unthanks with Brighouse and Rastrick Band.

Frank Renton presents the final part of this fascinating collaboration between a top folk group and one of the world’s most famous bands.

Highlights come from the performances at Brass:Durham International Festival.

Known for their timeless, unsentimental and quietly subversive tales, siblings Rachel and Becky Unthank are joined other band members, singers Chris Price and Niophe Keegan and pianist arranger composer Adrian McNally to tell the story of how the music came together. The concert is conducted by Sandy Smith.
