Pleasley Colliery Welfare Band has announced that soprano star Geoff Hawley has become their new professional musical adviser.

Geoff will provide advice and support to the band and the band’s MD Keith Buxton is delighted.

He told 4BR: "We all need a little help or advice, and who better to turn to than someone like Geoff. He has a wealth of experience as a player and conductor. Indeed it was my suggestion to approach Geoff and I am delighted that he has accepted the position."

Exciting times

Keith added: "These are exciting times for the band. Two years ago they were down to eight players and now we have almost a full band with a great atmosphere and we go from strength to strength.

Now having Geoff on board as well is another fantastic boost."
