Fairey (Geneva) principal cornet player Iain Culross has returned from a successful visit to Brassband Rijnmond in the Netherlands

Virtuosi

Rijnmond invited Iain to be their guest soloist at their recent ‘Virtuosi Concert’. Before the event Iain spent the morning and afternoon leading a series of masterclasses with some of the players from the band, sharing his performance knowledge, before featuring as soloist on both cornet and trumpet in the evening's concert.

Apart from being my solo debut in America it will also be a homecoming for me of sorts as I will be based in New Jersey, where my grandfather was bornIain Culross

Ancestral home

Meanwhile, Iain is also looking forward to his debut tour of North America as a soloist at the end of October, where he will be giving recitals and masterclasses at West Chester University, University of Delaware, and Rowan University.

The tour will end with Iain performing as guest soloist with the American champion band, Atlantic Brass Band on October 30th.

Special trip

Speaking of his American trip, Iain told 4BR: "It will be a special trip for me in many ways. Apart from being my solo debut in America it will also be a homecoming for me of sorts as I will be based in New Jersey, where my grandfather was born."

He added: "It will also be great to catch up with my friends at Atlantic Brass Band, who were very supportive of Faireys following the loss of our bandroom last year, despite the thousands of miles between us."
