The organisers of the British Open Solo & Quartet Championship have announced the cancellation of this year’s event.
Financial constraints
As previously reported on 4BR, the acute financial constraints faced by Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council has meant that the 13 year support for the event has come to an end.
And in spite of a number of interested parties contacting organiser Frank Hodges expressing interest in supporting future championships, he revealed that was impossible for this year’s event to go ahead due to the time constraints involved.

Encouraged
A spokesperson told 4BR: "We are very encouraged by the interest being expressed in supporting the contest by other parties. However due to the late announcement by Tameside, unfortunately it was not possible for this year’s contest to take place."
They added: "It is intended that discussions with interested parties will be progressed with a view to securing a suitable new venue, together with the potential for a new sponsorship arrangement to ensure that the 2012 contest can go ahead."
Contact
4BR has been informed that the organisers will be contacting all last year’s successful competitors to arrange the return of annual trophies.
