4BR has been informed that Rothwell Temperance has withdrawn from this weekend’s Doctor Martin Charitable Trust Wainstones Cup contest after it was revealed that an individual connected with the band had directly contacted adjudicator Kevin Wadsworth.
Promptly
The band decided to act promptly after it emerged that the adjudicator had been sent a text message with information the band felt compromised their participation in an event which carries a first prize of £4,000. The contest had been pre-drawn in advance.
Regret
A spokesperson told 4BR: "It is with deep regret that Rothwell Temperance Band has withdrawn from the Doctor Martin contest. The decision has been made following the disclosure that an individual connected with the band had contacted the adjudicator directly via text."
This has left us with no option but to withdraw from the contest and we have therefore acted immediately, as we feel this is the right and proper course of action to take in these circumstancesRothwell Temperance Band

They added: "The reckless action has compromised the contest, adjudicator and the band’s integrity. This has left us with no option but to withdraw from the contest and we have therefore acted immediately, as we feel this is the right and proper course of action to take in these circumstances.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the contest organisers, the Adjudicators Association and Kevin Wadsworth for their professionalism and co-operation in the matter.
The band deeply regrets what has happened and would like to apologise to everyone concerned."
