This weekend’s Bolsover Festival of Brass has created a new award for the event which takes place on Sunday at Mount St Mary’s College, Spinkhill in Derbyshire.
Memorial Trophy
The ‘Major Peter Parkes Memorial Trophy’ will be presented to the winning conductor in the Championship Section of the festival.
Major Peter Parkes, who died earlier this year, was an inspiration to conductors throughout the banding world and Arts Development Officer Carole Crompton decided it would be only fitting to dedicate a trophy in his memory to celebrate his amazing musical achievements.

Fitting
Carole commented to 4BR: "The Major enjoyed so many successes throughout his career. I thought it would be fitting to celebrate his achievements and keep his memory alive by dedicating a trophy in his name. He is greatly missed both as a conductor and as a friend by all who knew him in the brass band movement."
