4BR Quiz: British Open Quiz — Friday

The final British Open puzzler as we head towards Birmingham…

4BR

Our cinematic question caught a few out, but lots of you knew your Mel Gibson from your Mel Brooks.

It took a bit of historical research to get the answer to yesterday’s puzzler to try and get your hands on a golden mouthpiece from our friends at Denis Wick.

Thursday answer

Our question was: 'What is the British Open cinematic connection between a trumpet playing judge who has made a single appearance in the box, a test piece on which Roy Newsome has won and the brilliant children’s magician and entertainer Ali Bongo – the ‘Shriek of Araby'!

The answer:

The answer of course was the film 'Braveheart'.

Trumpeter John Wallace made a single appearance in the box in 1996, Roy Newsome won on ‘Freedom’ (the final cry from a soon to disembowelled Mel Gibson in the film!) and Ali Bongo’s real name was William Wallace.

The lucky winner was Keith Russell.

Friday quiz connection:

Our little quiz elf has really been devious to end the week, so you will have to put on your thinking caps and look through the 4BR results archive to find the answers.

Great prize

The winner picked out of the hat tonight will be able to get their hands on signed copies of Paul Lovatt-Cooper’s latest CD, ‘Only For You’ and of a study score for the Nationals test piece, ‘Breath of Souls’.

The link between a champagne measure named after a Biblical King; a Dire Straits pop single about star crossed lovers; a Rolf Harris song about a harem of ladies passing by – and a dead DJ with a Victorian link to a winning band?4BR

The question:

So put your thinking caps on and tell us the British Open link between a champagne measure named after a Biblical King; a Dire Straits pop single about star crossed lovers; a Rolf Harris song about a harem of ladies passing by – and a dead DJ with a Victorian link to a winning band at the contest?

You have to get all four parts right to win the prize, so look in the 4BR contest archives!!!

It’s a cracking prize – but you will have to put on your thinking caps to win it.

They are linked to the British Open we promise…
