World Rankings: July update

Preston win see Black Dyke move to the number 2 spot.

The latest World of Brass — 4barsrest.com Rankings see Black Dyke move up two places to number two following its recent outstanding victory at the English National Championship at Preston.

Cory retains its number one position as we approach the autumn major contests at Birmingham and London, and with both Black Dyke and Grimethorpe Colliery missing from the latter this year, the Welsh band’s most likely challengers for the coveted end-of-year top spot appear at the moment to be Foden’s, Tredegar, Fairey and Brighouse and Rastrick.

Top 10 bands 1. Cory 2. Black Dyke 3. Foden's 4. Tredegar 5. Fairey (Geneva) 6. Brighouse and Rastrick 7. Grimethorpe Colliery 8. Manger Musikklag 9. Rothwell Temperance 10. Eikanger-Bjørsvik

The other contests taking place since the last update were:

West Lothian Festival of Brass — won by Co-operative Funeralcare
Eurobrass — won by Schoonhoven
Queensland Championships — won by Brisbane Excelsior
Ripon Entertainment Contest — won by Ripon City
Bugle Contest — won by Camborne Town.

The next update will follow the British Open Championships on 3 September.
