The young members of Test Valley Brass will literally be taking up the baton later this month.

Leading items

In addition to performances at York Minster and at Alton Towers five young players will make their conducting debuts, leading the band in items at the concerts.

During the past few months, the Test Valley Brass Education Scheme has been working with the youngsters to help develop them into the conducting stars of the future.

Test Valley’s Alec Grimsey told 4BR: "This is a first for us and the young people have really enjoyed it and risen to the challenge."

He added: "It also helps these young people grow as individuals and help with their self confidence and leadership qualities as they have total responsibility for the whole band when conducting. That is can be quite a challenge."
