Hurst signing for Rainford

Marsden contest winners add to the bass ranks.

Rainford

The Rainford Band has welcomed Robert Hurst on Eb bass having previously played with Parr and Valley Brass.

Robert who is a pupil of cornet star Anna Hughes-Williams is also a member of the St Helens Youth Band.

Robert's first appearance with the band was at the recent Marsden march and hymn contest where he tasted immediate success.

Talented

Commenting on the signing MD Neil Samuel told 4BR: "I am pleased to welcome Robert to the band. He is a very talented young man with a very bright future ahead of him and I hope that he has a long and happy association with the band".

Retirement

Meanwhile, the announcement has been made of the retirement of Bb bass player Paul Rigby who will continue with the band as a non playing official.

Tribute

Paying tribute to Paul, Neil Samuel added: ""Working with Paul over the last 8 years or so has been an absolute pleasure. He has always been on hand to offer support and advice to anyone who has needed it.

He has been with the band since it's formation and has seen the band experience high's and low's, but despite this his commitment and enthusiasm have never wavered. He really is a true bandsman."
