The City of Cardiff (Melingriffith) organisation is currently enjoying a highly successful year with both their senior and development bands making it through to the National Finals in Cheltenham in September.
Varied mix
To mark the success, the band is releasing a new CD called ‘Cardiff in Concert’, described by Chairman, Dave Howard to 4BR, as, ‘…a varied mix of great music from both bands, that will appeal to a wide audience, not just those that regularly listen to brass bands’.
Startling
And to give the launch an extra bit of sparkle later this month, the senior and M2 Development bands will perform at the newly opened Dora Stoutzker Concert Hall at the startlingly refurbished Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Welsh capital, helped by guest soloist and college tutor David Childs.
The impressive new facilities at the college include a drama theatre, exhibition space, rehearsal rooms and the state of the art chamber music hall, which is ideal for brass bands, seating an audience of around 450 and featuring a ‘variable acoustic’ that allows technicians to adjust the amount of reverberation in the auditorium.

First time
Dave Howard added: "We believe it will be the first time that a brass band will perform at what is sure to become an iconic musical venue in Wales and beyond."
Copies of the CD will be available at the concert on the 25th June, whilst the CD will be reviewed by 4BR in the next few weeks.
