4BR has been informed that euphonium star David Thornton has joined Leyland Band on solo euphonium in time to play with the band at the forthcoming English National Championships.
The Sterling euphonium artist will will join principal cornet, John Doyle, by fulfilling a dual role both as a player and a conductor.
Major coup
Commenting on the signing, John Doyle told 4BR: "This is a major coup for Leyland. We have seriously high ambitions and want to perform at the very highest levels both in concerts and on contest stages. Signing a player of Dave’s calibre will certainly help us to do this. He is simply outstanding."
Evans delight
Professional MD Richard Evans added: "I’m delighted that David has chosen to play at Leyland. Not only does he bring his playing talents, but he will be working closely with John and myself in shaping the band. It is a very exciting time at present."
Very happy
David added: "I’m very happy to join the band. They are ambitious and I feel that I can get the most out of my playing and conducting with them. The band work very hard and I am looking forward to developing various projects."
