Results: Irvine & Dreghorn Slow Melody

John Doyle had a great time of it up in Scotland recently — with plenty of good playing to enjoy in the adjudicator's box.

The Irvine & Dreghorn Band recently raised the roof with the help of Leyland principal cornet player John Doyle.

Busy

John had a busy afternoon which kicked off conducting the band before taking up adjudication duties for the band's 'in house' Slow Melody contest.

Eight Junior band and 19 Senior players took part in the highly enjoyable event, which was capped off with a fine supper of Scottish steak pie.

Guest soloist

John was later featured as guest soloist in an evening concert which went down a storm.

A spokesperson told 4BR: "It was a fantastic day and this event is guaranteed to be an annual occasion in the Irvine & Dreghorn calender."

September 13 • Required: An Assistant Principal Cornet. A rare opportunity exists to join our Solo cornet bench and fill this crucial seat. We are an ambitious and friendly 1st section band who rehearse in our own bandroom in Chinnor on Wednesday evenings.

September 12 • We are looking for a repiano cornet player to help complete the team.. We are a second section band and rehearse Monday and Thursday 8-10pm at our own bandroom on Old Road in Tintwistle, performing a variety of concerts all year round.
