The Bolsover Festival of Brass is set to become even bigger and better this year — and your bands can be a part of it too.

Bolsover

Bolsover District Council has released details of its 2011 Brass Band Festival, which will take place on Sunday 11th September.

Growing success

The growing success of the six sections has now made it into one of the biggest contesting festivals in the banding world.

Festival of Music

Carole Hirst told 4BR: "What started as a single section entertainment has over the last five years grown to become a six section festival of music with around 42 bands and 1,400 musicians taking part."

The main Festival of Brass 2011 will be held at Mount St Mary's College, Spinkhill (just off junction 30 M1) on Sunday 11th September.

Open

The event is open to bands from all over the country, with hard fought domestic rivalries adding a great competitive atmosphere as ensembles from Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Cheshire, Leicestershire, South and West Yorkshire and Staffordshire battle it out for the generous prize money pot.

The success of the festival now sees it sponsored by Mercury Newspapers

Winners return

The 2010 winners, Newstead will be returning to defend their Championship title, whilst there promises to be wonderful battles in each of the lower sections too.

Recordings

This year’s event will be recorded Chorum Records, with bands being able to purchase CDs almost as soon as they have played the last notes of their entertainment programmes, whilst action photography will be taken at both halls which will be free to download after the event.

Framed photos will also be available to purchase on the day.

2012 event

Bolsover District Council has also announced that the 2012 Festival will return to its usual slot of the 7th October.
