4BR has spoken to Black Dyke principal cornet player Richard Marshall after he revealed that he has enjoyed a great response to his ‘Cornet Spotlight’ event at Leeds Town Hall on 15th May.
Focus
Richard told 4BR: "Starting with registration at 9.00am, we will move straight into a warm up session where everyone will be involved. The warming up session will be focused around hymn tune playing, before we begin our massed rehearsal on a new piece written by Simon Kerwin entitled, ‘Illustrations for Cornets’."
Extra help
Richard also revealed that the delegates will be getting extra expert help from Alan Morrison, the former principal cornet at Grimethorpe Colliery Band and who is regarded as one of the UKS leading brass teacher.
"Alan will be answering numerous questions, and I know for sure that all cornet players involved will gain great knowledge listening to Alan's words of wisdom," he added.
It won’t be all hard work though, as throughout the day there will be time to relax, although it will be all concentration as the day ends with the final massed ensemble performances.
We still have a few more places up for grabs so I hope people will come along and enjoy themselvesRichard Marshall
Great music
Richard concluded: "The spotlight will end around midday and I am thoroughly looking forward to working with everyone making great music. We still have a few more places up for grabs so I hope people will come along and enjoy themselves."
