Death Richard Mitton

The death has been reported of Sale bandsman Richard Mitton.

Sale Brass has announced the death of their longest serving member Richard Mitton.

Father's footsteps

Richard joined the band aged 8 and played for 65 years, following in the footsteps of his father, also called Richard, who himself played in the band for over 50 years.

Cornet and percussion

During his wonderful time with the band, he worked his way through the ranks to become a talented principal cornetist and latterly a solid percussionist.

To say he will be missed is a huge understatement. He is simply irreplaceable and it is the very sad end of an eraSale Brass

Missed

A spokesperson told 4BR: "He always had time to help new players settle into the band and to assist less experienced members with thier playing. He also worked quietly and tirelessly behind the scenes as band treasurer for over 30 years."

They added: "To say he will be missed is a huge understatement. He is simply irreplaceable and it is the very sad end of an era."

Funeral

His funeral will be held at Altrincham Crematorium on Thursday 28th April at 2.30pm.

Anyone who would like to play at the service please contact Sale's Secretary Sue Cook on 07970 718499.
