Buxton contest cancelled

The popular Buxton Contest has been cancelled for 2011.

4BR has been informed of the cancellation of the forthcoming Buxton Brass Band Festival, which was due to have taken place on 1st May.

Contest Co-ordinator Shirley Woodward told 4BR: "Entry to the contest has been decimated by the unusually late date of Easter and the Royal Wedding taking place on the same weekend. This has resulted in bands being unable to get enough players as they take an extra long Easter holiday."

2012 go ahead

However, it has been confirmed that the cancellation means that the contest finances will be protected and the next contest will go ahead on the 6th May 2012.

Shirley added: "Our thanks go to those bands who supported us. We look forward to seeing you in 2012."
