Cowes Concert Band has been hitting the headlines across the globe after its conductor composed a march dedicated to a fish and chip shop.
Andy Norman penned ‘Corries Cabin’ for the Isle of Wight band as a thank you for the shop’s generosity.
Compliment
The band received £250 from the Cowes-based take-away and restaurant during a charity fundraising week so Andy wanted to repay the compliment.
The story was soon picked up by local media and the following day was reported in the Times of Malta and the Irish Independent4BR
The Times
The story was soon picked up by local media and the following day was reported in the Times of Malta and the Irish Independent as well as numerous local newspapers. Andy and shop proprietor Richard Quigley were also interviewed live on BBC Radio Solent.
Andy told 4BR: "I have written several pieces of music for the band over the years and when I heard we were getting help from Corries Cabin, I thought it would be nice to write a piece in honour of the shop which is extremely popular with locals and visitors."
He added: "It lasts about three minutes and is written in the style of a traditional brass band march. The publicity we have received can only be good for the band and the wider brass band movement."
First performance
Corries Cabin was performed for the first time in public at a recent concert in Cowes. It went down so well the band will be performing it again at its special 60th anniversary concert at Cowes Trinity Theatre in May.
