The Holme Valley Brass Band Festival will be holding their inaugural Slow Melody Competition on Saturday 2nd April followed by the popular Holme Valley Brass Band Contest the next day.
Both events will be held in Holmfirth Civic Hall and the proceedings will begin with the Slow Melody Competition getting underway at 1.00pm.
Various sections
There are various sections from 11 years and under to veterans and the Festival will be adjudicated by Sandy Smith.
On the Sunday, the attention will switch to the 85th running of the Holme Valley Brass Band Contest, which has attracted an excellent entry of bands across the three sections with representatives from Yorkshire, the North West and the North East.
Youth first
The days proceedings commence with the Youth Section at 10.30am, followed by Section B (Third and Fourth Section bands). Section A (Championship/First and Second Section bands) will commence at approximately 3.00pm.
The annual march down the street will follow the contest results at approximately 6.30pm. This year's march will be held in memory of Trevor Storer, a local bandsman and businessman who sadly passed away in November last year.
The day's events will be overseen by David Horsfield with the deportment adjudicated by Stuart Fawcett.
