Morecambe celebrates Area first

After 106 years Morecambe celebrates its first Area title after Second Section victory at Blackpool.

Morecambe

The Morecambe Band is looking forward to a trip to Cheltenham in the Autumn following their victory in the Second Section of the North West Regional Championships in Blackpool on the weekend.

Clear winner

MD Andy Warriner told 4BR: "After weeks of sectionals and rehearsals the hard work paid off. Kevin Wadsworth remarked in his summing up on stage that the band was a clear winner told the story of ‘Resurgam’ very well. We couldn’t has asked for anything for our efforts than that."

Although the band has qualified for the finals before – and has a National title to its name — it was the first time in their 106 year history that they have secured an Area title4BR

First Area win

Although the band has qualified for the finals before – and has a National title to its name — it was the first time in their 106 year history that they have secured an Area title.

Andrew added: "I just want to say thanks to everyone involved in this historic win for the band – especially the players who performed so well on stage."

Poignant

It was also a poignant victory for the MD too as despite enjoying playing the piece over the years at Foden’s where his brother Mike still plays today, it was a favourite piece of their father’s who passed away last month.
