The Holme Valley Brass Band Festival will be holding their inaugural Slow Melody Competition in Holmfirth Civic Hall on the afternoon of Saturday 2nd April.
Popular contest
The popular Holme Valley Contest takes place the following day and has attracted an excellent entry across the three sections, which the organisers hope will guarantee a full day’s entertainment.

Slow melody launch
However, they are not resting on their laurels and have decided to launch the Slow Melody event in order to encourage participation from young (and not so young) players from around the area across the weekend.
Organiser Graham Bates told 4BR: "The Festival has enjoyed a new lease of life recently and we hope the Slow Melody competition will become an integral part of the weekend in the years to come."
Delighted
He added: "We are delighted to have secured the services of Sandy Smith to be our adjudicator, and we look forward to welcoming friends, old and new, to the Civic Hall for an afternoon of friendly competition."
Classes
The proceedings will begin at 1.00pm and there will be sections for 11 & under; 14 & under; 16 & under; Open Age and Veterans. Refreshments will also be available.
