Black Dyke Band and The Venezuelen Brass Ensemble are to be featured on BBC Radio 3 next week as highlights are broadcast of the RNCM Festival of Brass which took place in Manchester in January.
Afternoon on 3
Radio 3's 'Afternoon on 3' is an integral part of the station's weekday schedule and is designed to showcase music from varying genre's and concerts that have taken place and starting on Monday 28th February at 4.20pm, the programme will feature performances from the festival throughout the week.
Dyke Monday and Tuesday
Black Dyke conducted by Dr Nicholas Childs who opened the Festival will be featured on Monday and Tuesday. Dyke's programme includes the first performance of Paul Lovatt-Cooper's 'Starburst and Canyons' along with Philip Wilby's 'Red Priest' whilst Richard Marshall is the featured trumpet soloist in Arthur Butterworth's 'Concerto alla Veneziana'.
Twenty four hours later, actor Barrie Rutter is the narrator in William Walton's film score to 'Richard III' whilst Dyke's contribution to the week closes with Bourgeois's dramatic work, 'Blitz'.
Undoubted highlight
The high point of the RNCM Festival was the performance of the Venezuelen Brass Ensemble at The Bridgewater Hall and they will be featured on Wednesday and Friday.

Unforgettable
On Wednesday 2nd March listener's will get the chance to hear Giancarlo Castro's 'Gran Fanfaria' followed by what was a stunning interpretation of Bernstein's 'Symphonic Dances' from West Side Story arranged by Eric Crees.
Breathtaking Mussorgsky to close
To conclude the week's music from the RNCM Festival is the Venezuelen Brass Ensemble's performance of Elgar Howarth's arrangement of Mussorgsky's 'Pictures at an Exhibition' which brought many in the hall to their feet at its conclusion — it really is something not to be missed!!
