Guildhall 'Set To' feature new Turnage work

With his new opera set for its big premiere, Mark Anthony Turnage's music is set for a further boost thanks to Chris Houlding at the Guildhall.

The Guildhall School of Music & Drama Brass Band is to give the world premier of a new version of ‘Set To’ by leading British composer, Mark Anthony Turnage.

Originally published for brass ensemble in 1992, the piece has been transcribed for brass band by well known trombone virtuoso Chris Houlding and will be performed in the college Music Hall next week to coincide with the premier of the composer's new opera, ‘Anna Nicole’ at the Royal Opera House.

Commercial feel

Chris told 4BR: "I hope this rhythmically challenging work will make a useful addition to original band repertoire. It’s got a 'commercial feel' making it suitable as an appealing concert item."
