Members of Coleshill Town Band can be forgiven for looking somewhat bleary eyed of late….. as last weekend the band performed non-stop for 24 hours from the Friday night until the finale performance on Saturday night.
They were doing this in aid of a very good cause.
New jackets
The band currently do not have enough band jackets for the full complement of members and those that they do have are over 20 years old, ill-fitting and very dated.
So the organisation decided to put on the 24-hour marathon blow in order to raise much-needed funds for new band jackets that will come at a cost of £400 each, making a grand total of £16,000!
24 hours of music
Music making took the form of solo playing, ensemble work, instrument workshops, music lessons with Stephen Fagg, not forgetting the actual band practices & concerts by the three bands — Coleshill Beginner Brass, Coleshill Youth Brass and Coleshill Town Band.
The event at Coleshill Town Hall was open to all, and many shoppers and members of the public took the opportunity to drop in and have a listen.

Stalwarts!
Many members took the opportunity to play in shifts, ensuring that music was played for the full 24 hours, but full credit should go to two members of the organisation who completed the entire 24 hours without a break, namely Sally Wood and Tim Edwards (members of the hardy bass section!).
