Cowes Concert Band on the Isle of Wight will be given a cash boost from an unlikely source later this month – from a local fish and chip shop.
Donation
The band, which this year celebrates its 60th anniversary will be fundraising at the town’s popular ‘Corries Cabin’ take-away and restaurant, and the shop will donate a percentage of its takings in return
Also benefiting from the week will be the Earl Mountbatten Hospice and Ellen MacArthur Trust, which give sailing opportunities to seriously ill children.
Fundraising
Corries Cabin proprietor Richard Quigley told 4BR: "This is the eighth year we have held a fundraising week and this year we hope to raise more than ever. I am delighted to help Cowes Concert Band in its 60th anniversary year.
As well as entertaining Islanders the band also gives people of all ages the chance to learn and play a brass instrument."
We are continually looking at ways of raising funds to keep the band running and ensure that it remains an important part of the communityMD, Andy Norman
Support
MD Andy Norman added: "The support from 'Corries Cabin' is extremely welcome. We are continually looking at ways of raising funds to keep the band running and ensure that it remains an important part of the community."
