Blaenavon raises charity funds

Two fine charities benefit from Blaenavon remembering a popular former member.

Blaenavon

Blaenavon Town Band recently staged a concert to raise funds in memory of one of its former players, Martin Adams who died in 2009 after suffering from cancer.

Care

The beneficiaries of the concert were St David’s Foundation who provided care for Martin at home and St Anne’s Hospice who cared for him in their hospice toward the end of his life.

Packed hall

Playing to a packed hall the concert raised over £1,500, to be split between both organisations and featured Cory’s star trombonist Chris Thomas and local radio celebrity Mandy Starr of BBC Radio Wales who hosted the evening.

Both organisations presented certificates in return in recognition of the donation and expressed their thanks for raising such a large amount of money in the current difficult times4BR

Break

Taking a break from their busy preparations for the forthcoming Welsh Area contest, the band’s President, Wayne Lewis, presented the cheques to Kris Broome at St David’s and Terry Woodsford of St Anne’s at the Blaenavon’s band headquarters on Monday evening.

Both organisations presented certificates in return, in recognition of the donation and expressed their thanks for raising such a large amount of money in the current difficult times.
