Test piece return to Midlands

Five bands will provide an early Area run out in Newstead later this month.

Newstead

After a short break, the popular Midland Area Test Piece Festival returns at Nottinghamshire’s Newstead Centre.

Five bands

The event will take place on Sunday, February 27th at 7.00pm, with five different bands performing the music set for the regional heats of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.

Hosts, Newstead Brass will be joined by Hathern, Long Eaton Silver, Shirebrook MW (Unison) and Whitwell bands, who will each perform their set work as well a hymn tune, before receiving feedback on their performances from adjudicator John Roberts.

It’s a great chance for both brass followers and those with a more general musical interest to come along and experience some classic pieces from the brass band repertoireOrganisers

Plenty for everyone

A Newstead spokesman told 4BR: "The music for this year’s championships is challenging to the players but accessible to both brass and non-brass band audiences, so there should be plenty for everyone to enjoy.

It’s a great chance for both brass followers and those with a more general musical interest to come along and experience some classic pieces from the brass band repertoire."
