4BR has been informed that the seminar on brass band adjudication at the RNCM on Friday 28th January, at 1.30pm has attracted interest from the whole of the brass band world.

Common ground

Euphonium virtuoso and campaigner for change, Steven Mead, will be presenting the event that will attempt to find common ground in the current debate regarding how we adjudicate brass band contests.

All aspects

All aspects of the current debate regarding the use of criteria will be examined, and it will also encompass open and closed adjudication, different marking schemes, the subjective/objective aspects, and the need for transparency in decision making.

There will be also be a debate, chaired by Dr. Martin Harlow, Dean of Academic Studies at the RNCM.

Guest speakers during the seminar will include Kenny Crookston, Philip Harper, Dr. Roger Webster and Dr. Howard Evans. It is thought that leading representatives from the Association of Brass Band Adjudicators will also be present4BR
