Marathon music for Smithills

10 hours of music making should keep Smithills fit for a trio of CD releases.

Smithills

Smithills School Senior Brass Band and MD Chris Wormald have just completed their 18th annual 10-hour, non-stop sponsored rehearsal at their school to raise funds for their three forthcoming CD releases.

Sunday marathon

The band was in school on a Sunday too – from 9.00am to 7.00pm, and Chris led them through the full ten hours without a break, although during the afternoon, whilst the band broke into sectional rehearsals, they welcomed guest tutors Phil Pavey (trombones), Rachel Pavey (cornets) and Tim Dines (euphoniums/baritones).

It was a first taste of musical marathon work for Phil, who has been Head of Music at Smithills since September.

The sponsored rehearsal day has so far risen in excess of £6,000 for band funds, whilst much of the time was spent rehearsing new arrangements for their forthcoming CD recording4BR

Three CDs

The sponsored rehearsal day has so far risen in excess of £6,000 for band funds, whilst much of the time was spent rehearsing new arrangements for their forthcoming CD recording at the end of the month.

Smithills are to record 3 CDs of all new material with Doyen by the end of May this year.
